Met Eirean has issued a warning as hurricane-like weather is expected to hit with the south of the country set to be the worst affected.

It's believed conditions may be as bad as those experienced during the infamous “Hurricane Charley” of 1986.

Road Safety officials are appealing to motorists to take extreme care today.

Up to 50 millimetres of rain will fall in parts, while winds of up to 110 kilometres an hour have been predicted for some areas of the country.
