Tipperary fathers benefit from paid paternity leave

The scheme began last September and is paid at a rate of €230 per week for two weeks to both employees and the self-employed.

Over 5,500 paternity benefits have been awarded since its inception.

According to Minister for Health Promotion Marcella Corcoran Kennedy 175 of these have been to fathers in the Premier County.

Fathers who fulfil the PRSI requirements are eligible for Paternity Benefit – this can be taken at any time within the first 26 weeks of their child's life, or following adoption.
