Its estimated that more people die by suicide in Ireland every year than the numbers killed on our roads and the aim of today is to raise awareness of the help available for anybody who feels under pressure, or that they can't cope and feel there is no where to turn..
Events are taking place across the globe to mark World Suicide Prevention day- with a number of them here in Tipperary.
Among them are a 4 kilometre walk in Cahir this evening which leaves from the Castle car park at 6.45 which has been organised by Tipperary County Council and the local tidy towns committee.
Then there's an open day in the Nest space on The Narrow Street in Clonmel which is being run by the South Tipp Mental Health Consumer Panel.
C-SAW – the Clonmel based Community Suicide Awareness Workers – are holding a special remembrance mass in Saint Oliver’s church at 7.30
Chairperson Joe Leahy is encouraging as many people as possible to come along as we all are affected by suicide and depression in our lives.
A number of other events are also being held across Tipp today – while last Saturday Pieta House in Roscrea held an open day in order to show people the facilities they offer.
And if you have been affected by this story or are experiencing mental health difficulties there are a number of agencies that you can reach out to.
