Tipperary Crystal trading well in China

Tipperary Crystal has begun trading in China.

This is after it found a strategic partner there some 18 months ago which has led to five new co-branded stores opening there.

Managing Director Declan Fearon said the process started in 2009 at around the time Waterford Crystal got into difficulties.

He said the group that took over Waterford Crystal – KPS Capital – had nearly €1 billion in stock and this started coming onto the market at discounted prices in Ireland, the UK and US.

This made it difficult for Tipp Crystal to compete at normal retail prices.

A decision was then taken to go to the far-east which is proving successful for Tipp Crystal.
