When Mary O'Shaughnessy went to collect post there on September 6th, 2006 she discovered that the dwelling had been flattened.

Neighbours told her that workers had demolished the house earlier in the day – it transpired it had been removed to make way for the new Limerick – Nenagh road.

The couple are now seeking damages from the National Roads Authority, Limerick County Council and a number of others for negligence.

The High Court case is likely to last several weeks.
