All households in Tipperary will be obliged to account for how they dispose of their rubbish from the middle of next year.
The issue was raised at this weeks meeting of Tipperary County Council with many elected representatives saying there should be an onus on people to show where their household waste was finishing up.
This followed a discussion on the ongoing problem of illegal dumping which as well as costing the Council money to clean up is also hampering the efforts of the many voluntary Tidy Towns groups across the county.
Director of Services Matt Shortt says the local authority is taking steps to tackle the problem.
By July of next year all civic amenity sites in Tipperary will be able to weigh all waste being disposed of and will issue a receipt to customers.
This will allow the county council to investigate any individual who would need to demonstrate where they are disposing of their waste if they are not using a recognised collection company
