A North Tipp Councillor is warning that the future of Credit Unions in Tipperary are at risk, if the Government doesn't take steps to protect them.

Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Smith, says that while banks have been protected, credit unions have been ignored, with only the first €100,000 in deposits being protected.

He says that they have also now been forced to restrict how much they lend, to the detriment of small businesses.

Councillor Smith says that Credit Unions should be treated as a special case, given the diverse services they provide.
