Tipperary Councillor among a number said to be “double jobbing”

A North Tipperary County Councillor is one of at least 15 who are as one newspaper describes it “double jobbing” by working as assistants and advisers for Government Ministers or TD's.

Among the public representatives listed by the Irish Independent is Councillor Pauline Coonan who as well as her remuneration last year of €37,705 from North Tipperary County Council also works as a secretarial assistant to her husband Deputy Noel Coonan.

The feature also highlights Ireland's best-paid local representative – Fine Gael Wicklow County Councillor George Jones was paid over €83,000 last year – this was made up of his basic Councillors salary and allowances for the various committees and bodies he is involved with as a councillor.
