A local TD says it’s insanity that the government are not reforming the school bus system.
Independent Mattie McGrath says his office is inundated with queries from worried parents concerned about getting tickets for next year.
It’s an annual problem where numerous families across Tipperary are left with no way to get their children to school if they are refused a seat on the bus.
Deputy McGrath says he’s been told that 10 pilot schemes have been set up in other parts of the country to see if there’s a better way to do it.
But he says that’s not enough:
But it was Einstein that described the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. This was happening in school transport
of the last 10 years, or longer. In fairness, the Minister stayed back late last Thursday evening to answer topical issues for me, which many others wouldn’t. But he just said, they’ve had a review, in 2023 and 2024. That review is on his desk. As a result of that review, they’re having 10 pilot areas, but only 10.
