The recount in Tipperary North has ended with the elimination of Fianna Fail’s Michael Smith.
The ballot papers of independent councillor Jim Ryan. who called for the recount, and Councillor Smith have been rechecked and three discrepancies were found which swung the balance in favour of Jim Ryan.

Smith has now been eliminated and his transfers will be redistributed to decide the final two seats between Labour’s Alan Kelly, Ryan O’Meara of Fianna Fáil and Independent Jim Ryan.
White smoke is expected on a final vote at approximately 5pm.
