A feasibility study by Tipperary County Council of the privately owned 24 bed hotel is nearly complete.
The options were put before a public meeting in the town last week – one with a 21 bedroom hotel with a multifunction community hub for events and functions as well as a restaurant and bar with a large commercial kitchen.
The second proposal was for a 10 bedroom hotel with seven town centre apartments and four 2-bed apartments linked to it
This option would also have a market area with outdoor stalls.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Smith is encouraging people to engage with the County Council.
“Both proposals retain the front section and I certainly welcome that because you’re going to restore then the on Castle Street hopefully and bring clarity between the old building and potentially a new building.
“There will be significant retro-fitting on this they explained to us in relation to the front façade and to bring the original character of the hotel back.
“Tipperary County Council have asked people to engage over the next number of weeks in relation to submissions.”
