It looks like the Thurles Inner Relief Road has moved two steps closer.
Tipperary County Council has completed the deal to buy the land needed and local TD Michael Lowry has gotten a commitment from the government that it will go ahead.
Progress on the Thurles Inner Relief road has been delayed for a number of years due to problems buying up all the land needed for it.
The project will link N-62 Slievenamon Road from the Clongour Junction near Lidl to a new priority junction on the Mill Road.
It includes over a kilometre of new road and a 50-metre span tied bowstring arch bridge crossing the River Suir.
It’s hoped the new bridge will take 15% of the traffic out of the congestion that plagues Liberty Square.
Thurles Cllr. Micheál Lowry confirmed that a deal had been done last year to secure the last parcel of land needed but says it took until now to finish the conveyancing and get legal title to it.
A statement release last night says that Local TD Michael Lowry has gotten a commitment on the project from the Government and approval has been sought to advance to detailed design and construction.
