A new water treatment plant near Holycross is nearing a start date for its operations.

The plant at Killeenyarda near Holycross will supply water under the Thurles Regional Water Supply Scheme, affecting 15,000 customers in areas including Thurles, Borrisoleigh, Ballycahill and Holycross.

Customers are being warned to expect slight differences to taste and visual characteristics in the early stages, but Irish Water says it will remain safe to drink.

Duane O’Brien from Irish Water Operations says the plant is due to begin operations as soon as next week.
