A Tipperary County Councillor thinks it may be time to sue Uisce Éireann for breach of contract.

Independent representative Seamie Morris says the utility has failed to deliver on the promised Nenagh Waste Water Treatment Plant.

He says Irish Water had committed to lodging a planning application for the works by 2022.

“I do think its time for Tipperary County Council to put in an official complaint to the CRU first of all for not delivering a waste water treatment plant upgrade in Nenagh which they told us would start in 2022 – we’re here in 2025 and they’ve put in for planning permission but its totally flawed. So much so that the planners have three pages of further information requests.

“To be honest I think its time to sue Irish Water for breach of contract.

Seamie Morris also says the failure to deliver the new plant on time means close to 100 social houses cannot be connected in Nenagh.

“We now are looking at a waste water treatment plant that cannot connect six social housing projects that Tipperary County Council have bought the land for – up to 97 houses in those projects – because of waste water treatment plant capacity issues.

“These issues should have been long sorted by now – I know that Tipperary County Council are extremely frustrated with negotiations with Irish Water and the commitments that Irish Water gave. In particular that they would have it started in 2022 and we still haven’t seen anything starting.
