Councillor Pat English remains on as Mayor of Clonmel following the AGM of the Borough District.
The Independent representative had taken over following the General Election which saw then Mayor Michael Murphy elected to the Dáil.
Councillor English was proposed this time by Richie Molloy and seconded by Siobhan Ambrose who takes the role of Deputy Mayor.
Mayor English is looking forward to continuing in the role for the next 12 months.
“It’s a great honour. I was delighted to fill in for the last 7 or 8 months after Michael getting elected to the Dáil. It was a great honour and will be again now serving my home town for the 6th time. Really chuffed that my fellow councillors have chosen me for that role again.”
Mayor English accepts that the position does add to the workload but says he’s looking forward to it.
“You get used to it after six times. I suppose going forward there’s an awful lot of things happening in Clonmel and its nice to be involved and there at the front line.
“The Mayoralty is ceremonial – its not like other countries where the Mayor would have a say in the budgets and everything else. But it does give a little added incentive to get things done in the town.”
