Tipperary County Council is being urged to expand its checklist when approving any form of social housing to ensure it includes an approved waste collection service.

The motion was put down at the recent meeting of the Thurles Templemore Municipal District after local representatives received multiple complaints about fly tipping and other unauthorised dumping in estates around the towns.

Currently all social housing leasing, rental and HAP agreements have a certain number of criteria they must meet before the application is approved.

Cathaoirleach of the district Seamus Hanafin wants it expanded to ensure waste collection form part of the terms.
