Sinn Féin representative Davy Dunne says as well as policing the many green areas being developed by the local authority they could also carry out other duties.

The Carrick on Suir Councillor explains how he would see the role would operate.

“Maybe one park warden for a town of over 5,000 people. They’d have multiple roles – a dog warden, litter warden, parking warden – everything to do with outdoor spaces.

“They could issue fines if a dog wasn’t on its lead, a dog fouling, littering, people drinking in public spaces which we do have byelaws but they’re never enforced. All these things could be dealt with by one person.”
