We’re facing a significant, historic storm with winds possibly hitting speeds never recorded here before.
A red, ‘danger to life’ warning for wind will be in place across the country tomorrow for Storm Éowyn starting in the early hours of the morning.
Buses, trains and trams will not run during the alert, while schools, creches and colleges will be closed.
Tipperary County is advising people to prepare today for the arrival of Storm Éowyn.
The local authority Crisis Management and Severe Weather Alert Teams have been meeting to ensure they are ready for what the storm has to throw at us.
There’s a five hour Red level warning in effect in Tipperary from 6 o’clock in the morning until 11am.
While a broader Status Orange alert will kick in at 2am and will remain in place until 5 tomorrow evening.
Senior Engineer James Murray is urging people to make sure anything outdoors is secure.
“Look in your own garden and secure loose material. We’ve all seen photographs that always seem to come out after these events of trampolines tied up in electricity lines and up on ditches. If we can try and avoid that it will help the process of a clean up after and make things a little less dangerous after the event.
“We’d also ask people to do today maybe what they need to do tomorrow so they don’t have to be on the road tomorrow which would be a huge help to our own services.”
