33-year-old James Conlon, with an address of 11 Boherduff Heights, Clonmel was convicted of the charges which relate to the 2012 murder of Shane Rossiter in Golden.
Following a two week trial at Clonmel Circuit Court, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts against James Conlon on two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The 33-year-old, who has an address of 11 Boherduff Heights, Clonmel but who is originally from Wilderness Grove in the town committed the crime during the Garda investigation into the murder of Shane Rossiter, who was killed on the 17th October 2012 in Golden.
During his sentencing hearing, Clonmel Circuit Court heard that Mr. Conlon has a number of previous convictions, the most recent in 2008.
Judge Tom Teehan sentenced the Clonmel man to 8 years for the first count, and 6 years for the second.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
He suspended the final year of the term.
Speaking afterwards, Tipperary Gardai welcomed the sentence and said it sends out a strong message to people not to attempt to interfere in criminal investigations.
