Tipp legend to be laid to rest today

Thousands of people turned out in Thurles last evening to pay their respects to one of Tipperary's greatest ever hurlers.

Mickey “The Rattler” Byrne passed away over the weekend at the age of 93.

He was a legend in the game having won 5 All Ireland medals as well as 4 Munster Senior titles and 8 National Hurling League medals.

His Funeral Mass will take place at the Cathedral of the Assumption at 11 o'clock this morning.

County Board PRO Joe Bracken says hurling fans from far and wide queued to pay their respects last night.
