Tipp householders urged to ensure chimneys are clean

Well as the preparations for Christmas step up across the Premier, people are being reminded to ensure their chimney has been cleaned

Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year for the fire service who say the main causes of fire during the festive season are candles left unprotected, fairy lights left on all night or improperly wired, Christmas trees falling over, open fires without fireguards, and decorations catching fire.

Householders are also being reminded to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly
