With the cold weather over recent days, Tipperary County Council has had its gritting machines out across the county treating main routes…however they do not have a policy of treating approach roads to schools.
Independent Clonmel Councillor Andy Maloney is pushing for the trucks to go past schools in towns and villages in Tipperary to try avoid accidents while kids are being dropped off to class.
However, Director of Road Services, Marcus O'Connor says it's just not possible to treat every road where there is a school in the county.
Each night there is a freezing forecast, the eight trucks grit around one thousand kilometres of roads in the Premier County…at a cost of 10 thousand euro a night.
