Tipp native takes over as ASTI head

Tipperary man Ger Curtin says he understands why members would leave the ASTI over the ongoing row over pay equality.

The Silvermines native, who’s teaching in Dublin, has taken over as President of the secondary teachers union.

He says that ending pay discrimination against new graduates remains the main issue for his term in office.

But he also says he understands why 1,200 members walked out of the union earlier this year when they were missing out on pay increases due to their rejection of the Lansdowne Road pay deal.
