Tipp famers opposed to tractor NCT plans

Proposals by the government to press ahead with requiring NCT for tractors driving over a certain speed and distance have been described as farcical by farming groups.

The new laws will force tractors with a capacity of greater or equal to 40kph to have the road worthiness cert where they travel distances of 25 kilometres or more carrying items such as bales.

The move has been condemned by farming groups, such as the ICMSA, who say Transport Minister Shane Ross did no proper consultation with stakeholders.

Pat McCormack – Deputy President of ICMSA and Tipp farmer – says it’s farcical.
