Tipperary County Council says it’s well prepared for the expected snowfall this evening (Saturday).
Tipp will be under and orange warning for snow and ice from 5pm to 5pm on Sunday.
Significant snowfall accumulations expected with Very difficult travelling conditions, Poor visibility, Travel disruption, Difficult conditions underfoot and Animal welfare issues.

The local authority regularly has to deal with freezing conditions with 1,100 kilometres of Primary, Secondary and Regional roads to be salted using specially equipped trucks.
While snow is a much rarer occurrence the council is equipped to clear routes across the county with snow plough most recently deployed in the Upperchurch and Aherlow areas during the last snow.
Executive Engineer Tim Murphy outlines their plans:
“We will put snow ploughs onto additional trucks. We have up to 15 routes and we’ll treat them all as smaller sections in order to keep them clear.
“This will also mean that we should be able to go down to the lower grade or lower priority roads within the county.”
