Thurles has been declared Clean to European Norms in the latest litter league survey.

A survey carried out by Irish Business Against Litter shows that rubbish is largely limited to neglected city areas like Farranree in Cork and Galvone in Limerick City.

Thurles is the only Tipperary town included in the list and is ranked at joint-24th.

Judges found Cathedral Street and the public carpark at the Source were very well presented and maintained.

They found litter in the Tesco Service and Loading area that was associated with the store and not public littering while they also said care is needed at Riverwalk beside the Source to prevent it from deteriorating.
