Thousands of Tipperary students will begin their State examinations this morning.

Nationally, over 118,000 students will sit the state exams at centres across the country.

2,199 Tipperary students will begin their Leaving Cert exams while 123 start the Leaving Cert Applied.

First up this morning is English Paper 1, while this afternoon the Home Economics exam starts at 2 o'clock.

The Leaving Cert will continue until the 19th June when the final exams in Japanese, Italian and Technology take place.

Meanwhile, 2,333 students across the Premier County will sit the Junior Cert this year with English also first up with both papers on the timetable today.

The Junior Cycle exams will finish up on the 18th June with Italian and Latin.
