Thousands of Tipp students to start exams

The Junior and Leaving certificate exams get underway at 9.30 with English first on the agenda.

D-Day has arrived for Tipperary students as they begin their Leaving and Junior Cert exams this morning.

2,265 are due to sit their Leaving in the Premier County while 2,302 are facing into their Junior Cert.

English is the first subject facing both cycles while Leaving Cert students will also tackle Home Economics from 2 o'clock this afternoon.

The state exams will continue until the 24th of June. 

Nationally, over 120,000 students will sit the state exams at 5,000 centres across the country.

In all more than 4 million exam papers will be distributed to students across the country over the coming weeks.

The results of the Leaving Certificate will be issued on Wednesday 17th August and will be available on line from 12 noon that day. 

Junior Certificate results will be issued in mid-September.
