Yesterday, British, Swedish, Spanish and Italian ships rescued 2,400 people from 15 different ships.
While on Sunday, 3,500 migrants were rescued about 50 kilometres from the Libyan coast – The Irish Navy Vessel, the LE-Eithne, rescued 500 of those.

However, despite the bolstered presence in the Mediterranean, the UN refugee agency has estimated that more than 1,800 people have drowned while making the perilous journey so far this year.
