The HSE had been finding it extremely difficult to hire a replacement for when Dr John Healy retires.

Repeated ads to fill the post generated no applications and patients and other GPs in the town were very worried about what would happen.

But a Locum doctor has now signed on to take over the practice of 800 patients on an interim basis.

Labour TD Alan Kelly says an attractive package was offered including a practice nurse and secretarial support.
