Teachers unions to decide on strike action.

Separate meetings of the leaderships of both the TUI and the ASTI take place later – after unions rejected the latest proposals on reforming the Junior Cert.

The unions were not satisfied with the compromise suggested by the Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan, that 40 percent of marks for the Junior Cycle would be assessed by teachers.

Earlier this week the TUI warned that if industrial action goes ahead, it will likely be before Christmas.
