The Taoiseach has expressed full confidence in Justice Minister Alan Shatter.

Speaking from Castlebar today Enda Kenny also defended his close working relationship with the Garda Commissioner amid the ongoing controversy over GSOC and the damaging dossier from whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

His party colleague and Finance Minister Michael Noonan believes Alan Shatter is being 'smeared' by the opposition over the whistleblower controversy.

Michael Noonan says he doesn't know if documents handed to the Taoiseach by the Fianna Fail leader which allege serious malpractice by Gardai will stand up to scrutiny or not and insisted his colleague is being targeted:

Meanwhile, speaking in Limerick the Tánaiste wouldn't say whether Alan Shatter has handled the GSOC affair well.

Eamon Gilmore says he has confidence in the Justice Minister – but says the focus should be on the substance of claims made by Garda whistleblowers.
