The Taoiseach has called for banks to do more to engage with “very difficult cases” of distressed mortgages.
Enda Kenny says the government is clear that it does not want to see homes repossessed.
It follows figures from the Courts Service which show that over 7,000 repossession cases are in the pipeline.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny says the banks need to do more to find a solution for families in difficulty.
“It's a case really of sitting down to work out what are good outcomes for these cases – and over 100,000 have been secured and have been approved by the Central Bank” he said.
“So there are very difficult cases out there – it's a matter now of sitting down and working out which option is the best in any individual circumstance” he added.
