Thousands of uniformed gardaí led his tricolour-draped coffin from the Golden's family home in Blackrock to the Church of St Oliver Plunkett.
President Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Garda Commissioner have joined Tony Golden's wife Nicola – and his three young children – Lucy, Alex and Andrew – at the service.
Chief Celebrant, local Parish Priest Fr Padraig Keegan described Tony Golden's murder while protecting domestic violence victim Siobhan Philips as 'cold blooded' and 'evil'.
In his homily Fr Keegan said as a Guardian of the Peace, Garda Tony was doing his duty on behalf of our State and all of society. In that spirit he was assisting a member of the public, giving her protection, guarding her peace. It portrays the unique nature of the role, profession, dedication and commitment, the men and women of An Garda Síochána give to the people of this island.
