Stanwix Home plans making good progress

Plans to refurbish and redevelop the Stanwix Home in Thurles are making good progress.

The structure on Kickham Street has provided sheltered accommodation for over 100 years but its no longer suitable or up to standard.

It building traditionally provided housing for widows.

The Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association – which is an approved housing body – plan to broaden the services provided there.

Grant aid of 3.15 million has already been approved for the project – they hope to go to planning within the next month

Thurles Lions spokesperson John McCormack outlines what they hope to develop.

Four of the units in the existing home are still occupied – alternative accommodation will provided for these residents while the works are being carried out.

This isn’t the first time the Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association has taken on such work.
