New figures show it’s double the number waiting than in any other health facility.
Daily trolley watch figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation show there are 26 people waiting for a bed in South Tipp General today.
That's 16 on trollies in the ED and a further ten in overflow on the wards.
The situation at Limerick University Hospital – which serves North Tipperary patients, isn't as bad but there are still 12 patients waiting there.
This is the second week in a row that South Tipp General has experienced chronic overcrowding with the number in the high 20s. Speaking on Tipp Today last week, the head of the INMO Liam Doran described the hospital as being in meltdown and put it down to a lack of capacity, bed numbers and scant investment.
