Fianna Fail's Michael Smith is defiant in the wake of his party's decision to censure him.

The son of the former Defence Minister had the party whip removed after he went against a Fianna Fail Fine Gael pact during a vote to elect the Cathaoirleach of the Templemore – Thurles Municipal District.

It resulted in the Roscrea councillor being elected to the position instead of John Hogan as was expected.

However Michael Smith says in voting himself in as Cathaoirleach he was echoing the support that he had gotten in the election by topping the poll in Templemore – Thurles.
