The ongoing closure of the skatepark in Thurles caused a row at the local District council meeting.

Local Cllr Jim Ryan was arguing that more needed to be done to get it back open to the public.

It has been closed off for more than a year on health and safety grounds after some kids developed allergic reactions from using the equipment.

Cllr Ryan’s proposal that a letter be sent to the Minister for Finance Jack Chambers was laughed off and shut down.

There were some angry scenes before the monthly meeting resumed.

Cathaoirleach of the MDC Michael Smith says it would not have been a proper use of the council’s time and resources asking the Minister to spend the Apple Tax billions on fixing the skatepark in Thurles.
