The Stormont government is under threat following the surprise move yesterday.

Belfast-based security correspondent Alan Murray says Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness made no mention of any problems during his Ard Fheis speech on Friday.

“In his speech on Friday evening, Martin McGuinness said they'd got changes to the Welfare Bill and they were satisfied with it” he said.

“Now that's Friday night – morning, they're not satisfied with it”.

“So it's prompting the question did they got such flack at the Ard Fheis that they said 'we can't really go ahead with this' – or did delegates from the South say 'we're being hammered down here, you just can't go ahead, it will destroy our election hopes in the Republic” he added.
