The Minister for Health has once again called for ‘cool heads’ amid the latest controversy surrounding the National Maternity Hospital.

Dr Peter Boylan today announced he’s resigning from the Hospital’s Executive Committee with immediate effect.

Dr Boylan says he cannot remain on a board where they’re so blind to the consequences of the decision to transfer sole ownership to the Sisters of Charity.

He’s also accused other members of being ‘delusional’ if they believe it’ll be the only hospital in the world owned by the Catholic church to allow abortions.

The Health Minister has once again appealed for calm and says providing a daily commentary on the issue doesn’t achieve that.

The board of the St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group is due to meet this evening.
