According to reports, the Showgrounds, which opened in 2009, is one of three shopping centres to have been purchased by Varde, for a combined total of €170m, which was tens of millions of euro more than expected.
The other centres are Blackpool Shopping Centre in Cork and the Millfield Shopping Centre in Balbriggan, North Dublin.

The three centres were put on the market by NAMA last April under Project Acorn.
The final sale price is higher than expected, with the Showgrounds believed to have been valued at less than the the €40m it cost to develop.
