The number of sexual offences in Tipperary has risen considerably in the second quarter of 2016.
Meanwhile drink driving offences in the county have seen a noticeable reduction over the same period.
They are just some of the details contained in data published by the Central Statistics Office.
According to the CSO there were 31 sexual offences recorded in the Tipperary Garda Division during the months of April, May and June of this year.
This was up from 11 in the first quarter of 2016 and more than double for the same period last year.
29 of these offences were classified as rape or sexual assault.
Meanwhile there has been a sharp drop in the number of drink driving offences detected in the Tipperary Division. 52 were recorded in the second quarter of the year – a drop of 16 on the first three months of 2016. In all there have been 120 drink drivers caught on the roads of Tipperary this year.
There has been a significant increase in the number of thefts reported to Gardai in the Division with 366 recorded from April to May compared with 284 from January to March. However there has been a reduction in burglary offences which are down from 121 in the first quarter to 98 in the second.
