He has received a number of calls over the weekend from families who have loved ones in the Unit,

Staff were apparently informed of the HSE's proposals at a meeting in Cashel late last week.

Mayor Ryan says to even consider closing this Unit is an absolute disgrace, and will be fought at all costs.

He has sought an immediate meeting with Minister Kathleen Lynch to discuss the possible closure.
