The search for the remains of a former Cistercian monk murdered and secretly buried by the IRA almost 43 years ago has begun in County Meath today.

Joe Lynskey was taken from West Belfast in August 1972 and is believed to have been buried in Coghalstown near Wilkinstown.

The Independent Commission for the Location of Victim's Remains says it has good reason to believe that they are searching in the right area and that his remains lie somewhere in the 15 acre site.

Lead investigator John Hill says a geo-physical survey carried out in the past few months has helped pin-point areas of interest.
