Tippeary households are to benefit from increased supports for rural water services in the new year.
Minister for Housing, Eoghan Murphy, has today announced a range of measures aimed at improving the quality of water services in rural areas.
The Rural Water Monitoring Committee have had several meetings this year to address remaining inadequacies in the quality of drinking water in Tipperary.
The aim is to ensure that all rural areas come into compliance with the priorities set down in the European Union Drinking Water Regulations.
The changes which have been announced include a number of increases in the subsidys for group water schemes.
The subsidy per house in public and private group water schemes is to rise, with possibility of increased support for those interested in more sustainable water supplies.
The portion of costs recouped by group water schemes is also going to rise from 60% to 85%.
The Minister further indicated that he is currently finalising proposals to increase the level of grant support for users of private wells, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.
