Roscrea teacher heading to Ghana for 12 months voluntary work.

A County Tipperary teacher is to swap her life in Ireland for one year in Ghana.

Roscrea woman Ciara Ormond departs early next month on a volunteering placement with international development organisation, VSO Ireland.

Ciara – who has been working as a resource teacher in Coláiste Phobail Ros Cré will work as a Special Needs Officer in a district education office in the upper east region of Ghana.

She will ensure that children with disabilities will be properly recognised in the education system in Ghana and therefore receive improved services.

The Ghanaian Government made a commitment in 2007 to provide free universal primary education by 2015 in line with the Millennium Development Goals.
