People in Roscrea have given their support to plans for a CCTV system in the town.

A well attended public meeting last night heard details of the proposals to install 12 cameras at various locations around the town in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.

Detailed plans and costings have been drawn up for the scheme following a number of meetings involving Gardaí, the County Council and the Chamber of Commerce.

The local community will have to raise in the region of 28 thousand Euro as their contribution towards the project.

Derek Russell of Roscrea Stands Up says many of those attending last nights meeting called for cameras to be installed on approach roads to the town.
