Rock visitor numbers up one year on from Queen’s visit

This weekend marks the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's visit to the Rock of Cashel.

Visitors to the famous site have increased since the British monarchs visit last May.

Supervisor of the Rock of Cashel Elaine Moriarty says the historic visit has attracted more tourists to the area – last July numbers were up by 48 per cent, whilst this year tourism has increased by 10 per cent.

The Queen later described her visit to the Rock of Cashel as the highlight of her visit to Ireland.

The British Ambassador to Ireland, Dominick Chilcott, will mark the anniversarsy by visiting the Rock this afternoon.
