The cancellation of planned road works in Thurles is being criticised by a local Councillor.
Contractors had been appointed for the works on Kickham Street but according to Councillor Jim Ryan a lack of funds has led Transport Infrastructure Ireland to hold off on the project.
The works on a stretch of the N75 were to include road resurfacing, footpath improvements, drainage works and traffic calming.
Councillor Ryan told Tipp Today earlier that the works had been scheduled to get underway last August.
“About three weeks before the works were due to commence last year I got a phone call from the contractor to say he had got a phone call from the Council saying the works had been postponed because Transport Infrastructure Ireland didn’t have the money to carry out the works.
“At our District Council meeting on Monday I raised the issue again, and again the Roads Engineer confirmed that no update had been received from Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the last communications from them stated that they still didn’t have the money to start the works on Kickham Street which is just an absolute scandal in my eyes.”
