Student numbers at the North Tipperary primary facility have nearly doubled in the past few years which has lead to increased footfall adjacent to a very busy road.
At present Gardaí are patrolling the school during drop off and pick up times but given scarce resources locals say they won't always be in a position to do this.
Newport native and Chair of the Nenagh Municipal District Fiona Bonfield is calling on the authority to rectify the situation urgently.
She wants Tipperary County Council to put a pedestrian crossing with flashing beacons installed and feels a school warden will eventually be needed.
Councillor Bonfield points out that in 2009 there were 86 pupils in the school but with the building of a number of new housing estates this has now grown to 136.
